Welcome at St.-Aegidii-Church!

Our church was first mentioned in a papal bull (Pope Alexander III) in 1179 and is therefore probably the oldest town church in Quedlinburg.

Expansions due to increased demand have shaped the church's architectural history and resulted in its current form. History resides within its walls, and these walls have surely provided a place of reflection, community, prayer, and life transitions for 30 generations of people. Reason enough to take a closer look at the church and explore its details.

It all began with a chapel in what was then a village outside the town. Tradition speaks of its location near a spring.

It was dedicated to Saint Giles (640-710/724), one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and patron saint of nursing mothers and shepherds. The church was also once dedicated to Saint Catherine and Saint Ottilia.

We cordially invite you to make further discoveries – we look forward to meeting you!

The church – in both the material and spiritual sense – is, for us too, what people make of it and use it in a meaningful way. Preserving our church and using it appropriately is the focus of our work.

We also offer you the opportunity to contribute through a donation or by actively participating in the support group.
